What does the word ‘Gospel’ really mean?
In some ways, this term can be hard to explain or fully articulate.
Here is a really simple definition and an excellent place to start. The word ‘Gospel’ literally means, “Good News”. News is about something that has occurred, happened, or is already done. Gospel does NOT mean good behaviour, good advice, good technique, nor good manners. It’s NOT about what we need to do. The Gospel is about what’s already been done FOR YOU, in Jesus Christ.
The angels brought the shepherds ‘News of great joy – Christ the saviour has been born for you.’ The Good News is that Jesus Christ has died for you and been raised back to life again. May you believe this good news and have life in his name.
